To Tighten or Loosen: Deindustrialisation
At a time when the world attributed phrases like Miracle on the Han River and Taiwan Miracle to the growth stories of Korea and Taiwan, India was stuck with the Hindu Rate of Growth. Given our colonial past, was it inevitable or could it have been avoided with better industrial policy decisions? Here's Rutvik placing deindustrialisation in the Indian context and giving his take on it along the way.

What We Read Last Month
Warring Nations and Nature
Released in the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, WWF and adelphi's The Nature of Conflict and Peace report show that nature and conflicts are not just intertwined, but there is a causal relationship between the two. It talks about how livelihood insecurity, political instability, environmental crimes, and war-related destruction are harming nature. About time this becomes a part of the popular discourse, isn't it?

When 1+1 ≠ 2
You know the situation is dire when a top government advisor releases a State of Inequality in India Report for an establishment that, of all things, aims to improve competition amongst industries! Notwithstanding criticisms of the datasets and the methodology used, the brass tacks version of this report is India Inc. needs to create more jobs, the labour force participation amongst women has to be improved, and the focus should be on reducing out-of-pocket expenditure on healthcare.
